Commissioning
7.2 Measure the insulation resistance before commissioning
● The grounding and equipotential bonding connections have been established correctly.
● Moving and energized parts are guarded with touch protection.
● If the second shaft extension has not been used, its featherkey has been secured to prevent
● The carbon brushes can move freely in the brush guides, and the brush levers can freely
● All of the brakes are operating correctly.
Force-ventilated motors
● All external fans are ready for operation and have been connected so that they rotate in
● The flow of cooling air is not impeded.
Commissioning converters
● Commission the converter as described in its operating instructions before commissioning
● Make sure any work done is documented on the correct checklist.
Water-cooled machine
● The cooling water supply is connected and ready for operation.
● The cooling water supply is switched on. The data can be found on the rating plate.
● Cooling water is available in the configured quality and quantity.
7.2
Measure the insulation resistance before commissioning
Measuring the insulation resistance and polarization index (PI) provides information on the
condition of the machine. It is therefore important to check the insulation resistance and the
polarization index at the following times:
● Before starting up a machine for the first time
● After an extended period in storage or downtime
● Within the scope of maintenance work
The following information is provided regarding the state of the winding insulation:
● Is the winding head insulation conductively contaminated?
● Has the winding insulation absorbed moisture?
As such, you can determine whether the machine needs commissioning or any necessary
measures such as cleaning and/or drying the winding:
● Can the machine be put into operation?
● Must the windings be cleaned or dried?
Detailed information on testing and the limit values can be found here:
