The following table provides troubleshooting information for the security features on the ATA 191. For
information relating to solutions for any of these issues, and for more troubleshooting information about

CTL File Problems
Device authentication error.
ATA cannot authenticate the CTL file.
ATA cannot authenticate any of the configuration
files other than CTL file.
ATA does not register with
Cisco Unified Communications Manager.
ATA does not request signed configuration files.
ATA cannot update the CTL file.
General Troubleshooting Tips
The following table provides general troubleshooting information for the ATA 191.

Troubleshoot ATA 191 Security
Possible Cause
CTL file does not have a
Cisco Unified Communications Manager certificate
or has an incorrect certificate.
The security token that signed the updated CTL file
does not exist in the CTL file on the phone.
The configuration file may not be signed by the
corresponding certificate in the phone's Trust List.
The CTL file does not contain the correct information
for the Cisco Unified Communications Manager
server.
The CTL file does not contain any TFTP entries with
certificates.
When the CTL file is updated on
Cisco Unified Communications Manager, a factory
reset of the ATA is required to update the CTL file.
