INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER

To use this printer with your computer, you must install the printer driver.*

What is a printer driver?
A printer driver is software designed to convert print data from any application into
data understandable by the printer so that the printer can quickly and efficiently print

Install the printer driver using the supplied compact disc. This printer is supplied with the following
printer drivers:
PCL6 for Windows 95/98
PCL6 for Windows NT4.0
PCL5e for Windows 95/98
PCL5e for Windows NT4.0
In general, install the PCL6 printer driver. Sometimes with old application software
you may not be able to obtain proper output using the PCL6 printer driver. If this is the

case, stop using the PCL6 printer driver and install the PCL5e printer driver.
Before installation, make sure that:
The installation CD-ROM contains a file named Readme.txt. This file contains the latest
information and restrictions for using the printer. Please read this file before installing the
printer driver.
The printer is connected properly with the computer or network. (page 4)
The printer is loaded with paper.
The printer is turned on and in the online mode (the ON LINE light is lit). (page 18)
Quit all application software that is runningon your computer.
Confirm that your computer meets the following hardware and software requirements:
Computer Type
Operating System
CPU
RAM
This procedure uses the following drive names in examples:
Drive R: CD-ROM drive (holds the compact disc containing the printer drivers)
Drive C: Hard disk drive (where the printer driver will be installed)
Change the drive names as required according to your environment.
IBM PC/AT or compatible computer equipped with a bi-directional
parallel interface and CD-ROM drive
Windows95, Windows98, Windows NT4.0
Windows 95 :
486SX or better
Windows 98 :
486DX/66MHz or better
(Pentium or better is recommended.)
Windows NT4.0 : 486/25MHz or better
Windows95 :
8MB or more (12MB or more is recommended.)
Windows98 :
16MB or more (32MB or more is recommended.)
Windows NT4.0 : 16MB or more
