Sleep Mode If you have to interrupt your work, you are able to turn off the power without exiting from your software by placing the computer into Sleep Mode. In this mode data is maintained in the computer's main memory so that when you turn on the power again, you can continue working right where you left off.
Restores the previous working environment more rapidly than does the Hibernation Mode feature. Saves power by shutting down the system when the computer receives no input or hardware access for the time period set by the System Sleep Mode feature. Allows the use of the panel power off feature.

Do not switch to Hibernation Mode while transferring data to external media, such as USB devices, memory media or other external memory devices. Data will be lost. Benefits of Hibernation Mode The Hibernation Mode feature provides the following benefits: Saves data to the Hard Disk Drive when the computer automatically shuts down because of a low battery condition.
Restarting the computer Certain conditions require that you reset the computer, for example if: You change certain computer settings. Intelligent power A microprocessor in the computer's intelligent power supply detects the battery's charge, supply automatically calculates the remaining battery capacity and protects electronic components from abnormal conditions such as a voltage overload from the AC adaptor. This can be specified in the Power Options.
Using the TOSHIBA Sleep Utility The TOSHIBA Sleep Utility is used for changing settings of the following function(s): Sleep and Charge Sleep and Music It also displays the remaining battery capacity.
When Sleep and Charge function is enabled, USB bus power (DC5V) will be supplied to compatible ports even when the power of the computer is turned OFF. USB bus power (DC5V) is similarly supplied to the external devices which are connected to the compatible ports. However, some external devices cannot be charged solely by supplying USB bus power (DC5V).

Chapter 5 Power and Power-Up Modes The computer's power resources include the AC adaptor, battery pack and any internal batteries. This chapter provides details on making the most effective use of these resources, and includes information on charging batteries, tips for saving battery power, and information on the different power-up modes.
Monitoring of power condition As shown in the below table, the DC IN/Battery and Power indicators on the system indicator panel alert you to the computer’s operating capability and battery charge status. DC IN/Battery indicator Check the DC IN/Battery indicator to determine the status of the battery pack and the power status with the AC adaptor connected.
The computer's RTC battery is a lithium battery and should be replaced only by your dealer or by a TOSHIBA service representative. The battery can explode if not properly replaced, used, handled or disposed. Dispose of the battery as required by local ordinances or regulations.
Charging the batteries When the power in the battery pack becomes low, the DC IN/Battery indicator will flash amber to indicate that only a few minutes of battery power remain. If you continue to use the computer while the DC IN/Battery indicator flashes, the computer will enable Hibernation Mode so that you do not lose any data, and automatically turn itself off.
The battery has completely discharged and been left in the computer for a long time. In such cases you should follow the steps as detailed below: Fully discharge the battery by leaving it in the computer with the power on until the system automatically turns itself off. Connect the AC adaptor to the DC IN 19V jack of the computer, and to a wall outlet that is supplying power.
