    1 Alert On LAN 2 Features and Requirements Alert on LAN 2 (AOL2) is shipped with HP NetServer LP1000r and LP2000r systems to enable an administrator to perform remote power functions on their servers over the network via a simple Microsoft Windows-based interface or DOS command.

    Chapter 1 Alert On LAN2 Features and Requirements How Does AOL2 Work? AOL2 works by sending a special network packet from a Windows client to your AOL2-enabled servers to perform power functions remotely. To enable your server (this feature is disabled by default) to perform power functions over the network, you must first enable power on/off and Wake On LAN options of your the server's LAN A port (LAN B doesn't support AOL2).

    Chapter 1 Alert On LAN2 Features and Requirements A Word About Security Once the server has been setup and enabled to receive these packets, you should ensure that no one other than specified administrators can access the software used to shut down or power cycle your servers. Do this by installing the AOL2 client software only on designated, secure, password-protected, management consoles.

    2 Installing and Using AOL2 The follow sections describe how to install, use, and disable the AOL2 feature. Setting Up AOL2 at the Server 1. Boot the NetServer and run the server's BIOS setup program (press F2 when prompted during the boot process). 2.

    Chapter 2 Installing and Using AOL2 aol2 poweroption hostname where poweroption indicates which power option you wish to use and hostname is the hostname or IP address of your NetServer. To get a list of parameters, enter the command aol2 without any parameters. NOTE The above command line assumes that the path to the system32 directory is included as an environment variable.
