    1 Introduction About This Guide This guide contains instructions for installing a D6077A upgrade kit to add a second hot-swap mass storage cage to your HP NetServer LH 3/3r or LH 4/4r. The HP NetServer LH 3 or LH 4 is the floor-standing pedestal configuration, and the HP NetServer LH 3r or 4r is the rack-optimized configuration, as shown in Figure 1-1.

    Chapter 1 Introduction Precautions Follow the procedures listed below to ensure safe handling of components and to prevent harm to both you and the NetServer: WARNING Hazardous voltages and high energy levels are present inside the NetServer. ALWAYS disconnect the AC power cord(s) from the NetServer before removing the cover.

    Chapter 2 Installation 3. Turn off power to the HP NetServer. 4. Disconnect the AC power cord(s) and all external cables from the NetServer. WARNING Before removing the cover, always disconnect the power cord(s) and unplug telephone cables. Disconnect telephone cables to avoid exposure to shock hazard from telephone ringing voltages.

  • Page 14 Chapter 2 Installation WARNING To prevent the rack from tipping over, extend the anti-tip foot or attach the anti-tip feature before extending the NetServer from the rack. Also lower the leveler feet of the rack to improve stability and to prevent the rack from rolling. Failure to use the anti-tip foot or feature and the leveler feet could result in serious injury.

Step 3: Remove Cover 1 and Cover Plate Remove Cover 1, shown in Figures 2-8 and 2-9, by unscrewing the thumbscrew and then pulling the cover forward to disengage it.

Unscrew its six retaining screws, as shown in Figure 2-10, and remove the cover plate.

    Chapter 2 Installation Step 4: Install Mass Storage Cage Orient the hot-swap mass storage cage, as shown in Figure 2-11. The backplane of the cage faces into the empty expansion bay.   • Page 24 Chapter 2 Installation CAUTION As you insert the cage, be careful not to damage the cage’s backplane, management board, and the insulating sheet covering them (not shown in Figure 2-11). 2. Insert the hot-swap mass storage cage by sliding it carefully into the mass storage expansion bay, as shown in Figure 2-11.

    Chapter 2 Installation 5. Insert six screws into the front of the hot-swap mass storage cage, as shown in Figure 2-12, and tighten them. Step 5: Remove Fan Assemblies Before you install the SCSI cable, remove two fan assemblies to gain working space and access to the SCSI B connector on the I/O board.

    Chapter 2 Installation For a NetServer in a Rack Do the following to remove the fan assemblies from an HP NetServer in a rack: 1. Disconnect the fan cables from the Fan 0 and Fan 1 connectors on the system backplane. These connectors are shown in Figure 2-13 for the HP NetServer LH 3.

    Chapter 2 Installation 2. Remove Fan Assemblies 0 and 1, as follows: a. Press firmly on the catch in the top of one fan assembly, shown in Figure 2-14, and swing the upper side of the fan assembly away from the accessory board guide.

    Chapter 2 Installation 2. Swing the fan assembly against the accessory board guide, and press in on the catch to latch the fan assembly into place. (This reverses the procedure shown in Figures 2-13 and 2-14.) 3. Connect the cable of the fan assembly to the Fan 0 connector on the system backplane, which is shown in Figure 2-13 for the HP NetServer LH 3.

    Chapter 2 Installation Disk spacers must be installed to fill all empty spaces between adjacent disk drive modules or filler panels in the hot-swap mass storage cage. Insert disk drive modules slowly and gently to prevent damage, as described in HP NetServer Ultra2 SCSI Hot-swap Hard Disk Drive and Tray User Guide.

Attach the power cord retainer for each AC power cord, as shown in Figure 2-32. Lift the metal piece underneath, squeeze the two long metal tabs toward each other, and slide the wire bail over the tabs.

    3 Configure Mass Storage Decide RAID or Non-RAID The disk drives in the secondary hot-swap mass storage cage, along with any non- hot-swap SCSI devices, can be configured in two different ways: Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) configuration under control of the integrated HP NetRAID controller Non-RAID configuration under the control of the SCSI B controller Non-RAID configuration (also called "JBOD"...
