    Disassembly Procedures Safety Guidelines This chapter contains step by step procedures on how to remove and de-install components from the computer. Use the following safety guidelines to ensure your personal safety. Each procedure included in this chapter assumes that you are preparing your computer for recycling and disposal.

  • Page 7 Pre-disassembly Instructions Do the following prior to starting any maintenance procedures: 1. Place the system on a stable work surface. 2. Remove the AC adapter from the DC-in jack (A) or the power adapter from the USB Type-C port (B) as shown in Figure 1-1.

  • Page 9 Base Cover Removal 1. Remove thirteen (13) screws from the base cover (Figure 1-3). Figure 1-3. Base Cover Removal 2. Carefully pry up the base cover starting from the upper side to release the latches. Then continue to release the remaining latches on the left and right bottom sides (Figure 1-4).

  • Page 11 Battery Pack Removal Prerequisite: Base Cover Removal 1. Find the battery pack (A) in the system (Figure 1-6). 2. Detach the acetate tape (B) securing the battery cable to the mainboard connector (Figure 1-6). 3. Detach the transparent mylar (C) securing the battery cable (Figure 1-6).

Lift to release the battery pack from the guide pin (E) and guide studs (highlighted by green lines) (Figure 1-8). Then remove the battery pack from the top assembly. Disconnect the WLAN antennas cables from the WLAN module connectors (B) (Figure 1-14). 3. Remove one (1) screw securing the WLAN module in place (Figure 1-14).

  • Page 17 DIMM Modules Removal Prerequisite: Battery Pack Removal 1. Find the DIMM module (A) in the system. Then push the DIMM module clips (B) outwards (Figure 1-16). Figure 1-16. DIMM Module Removal 2. Remove the DIMM module from the mainboard connector (C) (Figure 1-17).
  • Page 18 LCD Module Removal Prerequisite: Battery Pack Removal 1. Disconnect the LVDS cable from the mainboard connector (A). Then unroute the cable from the cable guides as shown in Figure 1-18. Figure 1-18. LCD Module Removal 2. Open the LCD module to 90°. Then remove six (6) screws securing the LCD hinges (Figure 1-19).

  • Page 20 RTC Battery Removal Prerequisite: Battery Pack Removal 1. Disconnect the card reader board FFC from the mainboard connector (A) (Figure 1-21). Figure 1-21.   • Page 21 2. Disconnect the RTC battery cable from the mainboard connector (B) (Figure 1-22). 3. Using plastic tweezers, carefully pry to detach the adhesive tape underneath the RTC battery (C) (Figure 1-22). Then remove the RTC battery. WEEE Annex VII Component: RTC Battery Figure 1-22.
  • Page 22 USB Board Removal Prerequisite: Battery Pack Removal 1. Remove three (3) screws securing the USB board and left IO bracket (Figure 1-23). Figure 1-23. USB Board Removal 2. Lift the left IO bracket (A) to release it from the guide pins (B) (Figure 1-24).
  • Page 23 3. Disconnect the USB board FFC from the USB board connector (C) (Figure 1-25). 4. Disconnect the fingerprint FFC from the USB board connector (D) (Figure 1-25). Figure 1-25.   • Page 24 HDD Module Removal Prerequisite: WLAN Module Removal 1. Disconnect the HDD cable from the mainboard connector (A). Then carefully detach the FFC from its underneath adhesive as shown in Figure 1-27. 2. Remove four (4) screws (B) securing the HDD bracket (Figure 1-27).

  • Page 27 Card Reader Board Removal Prerequisite: SSD Module Removal 1. Detach the sponge (A) from the card reader board (Figure 1-32). 2. Disconnect the smart card reader FFC from the card reader board connector (B) (Figure 1-32). 3. Disconnect the card reader board FFC (C) from the card reader board and mainboard connectors (Figure 1-32).

  • Page 30 3. Disconnect the USB board FFC from the USB board connector (D) (Figure 1-37). 4. Disconnect the right speaker cable from the mainboard connector (E) (Figure 1-37). 5. Disconnect the keyboard FPC from the mainboard connector (F) (Figure 1-37). 6. Disconnect the keyboard backlight FPC from the mainboard connector (G) (Figure 1-37).
  • Page 31 11. Pry to detach the adhesive tape underneath the RTC battery (L) (Figure 1-38). 12. Remove one (1) screw (M) securing the right IO bracket. Then remove another two (2) screws (N) securing the mainboard (Figure 1-38). Figure 1-38. Mainboard Removal 13.

  • Page 34 Touchpad Module Removal Prerequisite: Mainboard Removal 1. Disconnect the fingerprint FFC (A) from the USB board and touchpad module connectors. Then carefully detach the FFC from its underneath adhesive (highlighted by the yellow lines) and remove the fingerprint FFC (Figure 1-44).

Using the screwdriver, push the guide pin (D) firmly to release it from the top assembly (Figure 1-48). 6. Slide the touchpad module slightly to disengage it from the bottom latches (E), and then remove the touchpad module (F) from the top assembly (Figure 1-48).

  • Page 40 2. Pry slightly to access the double-sided mounting tape (B) underneath the LCD panel (C). Then pull to detach the double-sided mounting tape. Repeat the same procedure to remove the double-sided mounting tape on another side of the LCD panel (Figure 1-54).

  • Page 42 Top Assembly Removal (Keyboard Removal) Prerequisite: Ensure that the Left Speaker, DC-IN Cable, Right Speaker, Smart Card Reader, Card Reader Board, and Touchpad Module have been disassembled prior removing the top assembly. NOTE: NOTE: The keyboard is included as part of the top assembly and can not be disassembled. In the event that the keyboard can no longer be used, replace the entire top assembly.
