Step 3
There is no external power On/Off switch on this switch. To power on the switch, connect
one end of the AC power cord that ships with the switch to the AC power connector on the
switch, and connect the other end of the power cord to a grounded AC power outlet.
Step 4
When the switch powers on, it automatically begins the POST, a series of tests that verifies
that the switch functions properly. If the SYSTEM LED does not blink green and then turn to
solid green, or if it turns amber, contact your Cisco representative or reseller.
Step 5
After the Cisco Catalyst Express 520 switch successfully completes POST, disconnect the
power cord from the AC outlet and connect the switch to the Cisco Unified 500 Series.

Connect Switch to a Cisco Unified 500 Series

To connect the switch to a Cisco Unified 500 Series, perform the following steps:
Step 1
Connect one end of a straight-through, twisted four-pair Category 5 cable with RJ-45
connectors to the 1000BASE-FX port on the front panel of the Cisco Catalyst Express 520.
Step 2
Connect the other end of the cable to the Expansion port on the front panel of the
Cisco Unified 500 Series.
Step 3
Connect the power cord for the switch to a grounded AC power outlet. When the the switch
powers on, it automatically begins the POST, a series of tests that verifies that the switch
functions properly. Wait until the 1000BASE-X port on the switch is solid green. The solid
green port LED indicates a successful connection between the two devices. If the LED is not
solid green:
a. Make sure that the cable is not faulty. If it is, replace it with a tested good cable.
b. Make sure the Cisco Unified 500 Series is powered up.

Add Switch to Community

In order to alter the initial configuration of the switch, you must add the switch to a community in
Cisco Configuration Assistant. To add the switch to the community for this Cisco Unified 500 Series,
perform the following steps.
