Preparing the Machine
Be sure to read your setup sheet first for setting up your machine and getting it ready for use.
Unpack the machine
Please confirm the included items against the illustration printed on the lid of the packing box.
Caution
Since this machine weighs approximately 36.6 lbs. (16.6 kg), it is recommended that two people move
or relocate the machine. For details on transporting the machine, refer to "Transporting the Machine" in
the User's Guide on-screen manual.
Be sure to remove the tapes and protective material before you turn on the machine.
Important
A USB cable is necessary to connect the machine with your computer.

Connect the telephone line and the power cord.
Be sure to use the bundled telephone line cable.
If you connect the telephone line, see "Preparing the Machine for Fax" on page 32.
Remove the Telephone connector cap to connect the external device.
Users in the UK
If the connector of the external device cannot be connected to the jack on the machine,
you will need to purchase a B.T. adapter to connect as follows:
Connect the external device line to the B.T. adapter, then connect the B.T. adapter to the
jack.
Note
The tape or the protective material position is subject to change.
Installing cleaning sheets
Cleaning sheets can be stored in the Cleaning Sheet Holder. For details on installing cleaning
sheets, refer to "Cleaning the Inside of the Machine (Sheet Cleaning)" in the User's Guide on-
screen manual.

Turn on the machine.
Note
If an unintended language is displayed on the LCD, press the Back button to return to the
Language selection screen.
The country selection is only available for some countries.

Install the Print Head.
Caution
Do not touch internal parts other than the Print Head Lock Lever.
Important
If you could not install the Print Head properly, lift the Print Head Lock Lever, remove it, and then
install it again properly.
Do not reattach the protective cap once it has been removed.
Note
There might be some transparent or light blue ink on the inside of the bag the Print Head comes in,
or the inside of the protective cap - this has no effect on print quality. Be careful not to get ink on
yourself when handling these items.
