Installation Guide 1 Introduction The Motorola Solutions NX series integrated services platform provides an innovative and efficient alternative to standard telephony networks. The NX series platform supports both wired and wireless data services for VOIP and video applications for the enterprise branch office marketplace. The NX series platform also provides a framework for scalable branch office services from a centralized network operation center.
Dispose of used batteries according to the instructions. • Motorola strongly recommends the use of an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) that supports the NX-4500/NX6500 series platform power rating. Not using a UPS can result in data loss or equipment damage due to a power surge or power failure.
Installation Guide • Provide a sufficient number of power drops for your equipment. • Ensure adequate, dust-free ventilation to all installed equipment. • Identify and prepare Ethernet and console port connections. • Verify that cable lengths are within the maximum allowable distances for optimal signal transmission. •...

Installation Guide 3 Hardware Setup The NX series platform contains the following external interfaces on the front chassis: • (2) RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet Ports • (1) RJ-45 Serial Console Port • (4) USB Ports (Host 2.0) • (24) RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet Port Connector (NX-4524 & NX-6524 only) The following figure represents the front of the NX-4500 and NX-6500 models: The following figure represents the front of the NX-4524 and NX-6524 models:...
The sections that follow describe detailed connection and cabling information for each port. For software configuration, please see the current WiNG System Reference Guide available from the Motorola Solutions website at: http://supportcentral.motorolasolutions.com/support/product/manuals.do.
All NX series platforms have (2) RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports and (1) expansion module kit (optional). The NX-4524 and NX-6524 models also have (24) RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet switch ports. Motorola Solutions recommends using Category 6 Ethernet cable for connections to the RJ-45 ports.
NX-4500/NX-6500 Series Intregrated Services Platform Follow the instructions in the current WiNG 5 System Reference Guide for more information on accessing USB storage devices for file transfers or firmware updates. To add the NX series platform to the network using the WiNG 5 initial settings wizard, see Basic Configuration on page 3.2.2 USB Devices All NX series platforms contain four USB ports for connecting USB flash storage devices to the platform.
Installation Guide 3.2.3 NX Series Expansion Module The NX Series Expansion Module kit (KT-NXMODC-01) allows for the installation and implementation of up to four Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) cards. The NX Series Expansion Module can be installed in any of the NX-4500/NX-6500 series platforms.
NX-4500/NX-6500 Series Intregrated Services Platform To install an expansion module: 1. Remove the expansion card cover for the expansion module bay. 2. Insert the expansion module into the expansion module bay. 3. Using a T10 security torque screwdriver, tighten the two screws on the sides of the expansion module to 5.0 lbf-in.
Installation Guide 3.2.5 Supplying Power to the NX Series Integrated Services Platform To supply power to the NX series platform: 1. Connect an approved power cable to the connector on the back of the platform and plug it into a standard AC outlet with a voltage range of 100 to 240 VAC.
NX-4500/NX-6500 Series Intregrated Services Platform 4 Basic Configuration Motorola Solutions NX series integrated services platforms running WiNG 5 contain an initial settings wizard to streamline the process of getting the device on the network for the first time. Once the device is installed and powered on, complete the following steps to get the device up and running and access management functions: 1.

Installation Guide 6. If this is the first time the management interface has been accessed, the Initial Setup Wizard automatically displays. The Introduction screen displays the various actions that can be performed using the wizard under the Function Highlight field. Use the Choose One type to Setup the Access Point field options to select the type of wizard to run.
