1 Overview of HP 3PAR-to-3PAR Storage Peer Motion About Peer Motion HP 3PAR Peer Motion controls the migration of a host and its data from a source system to a destination system with as little disruption to the host as possible. With Peer Motion, you can copy the virtual volumes and system configuration information to a new system with no changes to host configurations, no loss of access by a host to its data in an online migration, and only a minimal outage during a minimally disruptive migration.
hosts. The destination system non-disruptively moves the volumes from the source system while servicing I/O requests from the hosts. Offline — With offline migration, volumes are not actively exported, and there is no access to the data throughout the migration process. The hosts can be exported any time after the migration by using the HP 3PAR OS export commands.
Create and edit the domains, hosts, CPGs, and so on, on the destination system. Launch the Data Migration wizard to perform volume migration from the source system to the destination system. After the data migration is successful, perform the Remove PM Configuration operation on the source system.
2 Preparing for Data Migration System Requirements Installation Requirements The following requirements must be satisfied to install Peer Motion: There must be access to the HP Software Depot at http://www.software.hp.com. The host computer must have access to the destination system. The HP 3PAR user account must have Super user rights.
WARNING! On Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2 and non-R2, do not use the mpclaim CLI command or attempt to display the MPIO information via the Disk Management GUI during the Peer Motion migration admitvv stage. Doing so will result in the host becoming unresponsive.
Pre-Migration Constraints The source system in a Peer Motion operation should run HP 3PAR OS 2.3.1, 3.1.1, or 3.1.2. The destination system must run HP 3PAR OS 3.1.1 or 3.1.2. That system can be an F-, a T-, or a V-class. E-class and S-class systems can only be source systems, because they cannot run HP 3PAR OS 3.1.1 or 3.1.2.
3 Using the Peer Motion Manager The HP 3PAR Peer Motion Manager enables users to perform the following Peer Motion operations: Display the source and destination configurations. Display volumes that are to be migrated, admitted, and imported. Display hosts, users, and domains that are to be migrated. Display the LDAP configuration if it is available.
Creating a Peer Motion Configuration To use the Create PM Configuration wizard, the following conditions are required: Storage systems must meet all the requirements in the HP 3PAR-to-3PAR Data Migration Guide (http://www.hp.com). Super user role. At least one available source system and destination system that are not in a Peer Motion configuration.
Click the <Destination> icon and select a destination system. If you attempt to create a peer motion configuration between an encrypted source system and a non-encrypted destination system, a warning dialog appears indicating data migrated to the non-encrypted system is no longer be protected by encryption. Click Yes to create the configuration, or click No to return to the Select Systems screen with the destination system reset.
Select Pick a pair for <destination port>, then select the port you want paired with the destination port. (Peer ports display as bold.) A Migrating Secondary Asynchronous Periodic Remote Copy Volume Groups Peer Motion allows the seamless migration of data from a legacy system to a modern array. This appendix describes the procedures for migrating secondary-storage Remote Copy volumes to a new system by using Peer Motion. When configuring peer motion, it may be necessary to make modifications to the FC switch, as the WWNs will change when moving from peer nodes to host modes.
Page 61
On the source system, re-admit the primary virtual volume into the original periodic group and restart the group. You do not need to wait for the import virtual volume operation to complete; you are admitting the original periodic group with the original primary and secondary virtual volumes.
B Additional Steps to Migrate HP-UX Hosts Rescanning for New LUN Paths Before continuing with migration, it is recommended that you rescan for new LUN paths and make a note of the new paths to the volumes: # ioscan -fnC disk HP-UX 1 1i V3 HP-UX 1 1i v3 standalone and Serviceguard clustered hosts can be migrated by using the online migration procedure.
Page 63
On node1, make a note of the new pv_paths to the PVs already in the volume group (from the output of the LUN rescan; see “Rescanning for New LUN Paths” (page 62)). Add all the new paths to the volume group, using the following command: # vgextend vg_shared pv_path Export the changes to other cluster nodes: From node1, export the mapfile for vg_shared:...
Page 64
For each node in the cluster configuration file, modify the values of FIRST_CLUSTER_LOCK_PV and SECOND_CLUSTER_LOCK_PV. To check the configuration, run the cmcheckconf command. To apply the configuration, run the cmapplyconf command. For more information on updating cluster lock disk configuration, see Managing Serviceguard Seventeenth Edition.
