    Safety Instructions Use the following safety guidelines to protect yourself and your computer. For comfort and efficiency, observe the ergonomic guidelines provided in the Tell Me How help file. When Using Your Computer CAUTION: Do not operate your computer with any cover(s) (including the computer cover, filler brackets, front-panel inserts, and so on) removed.

    NOTICE: Do not attempt to service the computer yourself, except as explained in this guide and elsewhere in Dell documentation. Always follow installation and service instructions closely. Turn off your computer and all devices. Ground yourself by touching an unpainted metal surface at the back of the computer before touching anything inside your computer.

    The operating system CD provides options for reinstalling your Windows 98 Second Edition operating system. The options can potentially overwrite files installed by Dell and possibly affect programs installed on your hard drive. Therefore, Dell does not recommend that you reinstall your operating system unless instructed to do so by a Dell technical support representative.
  • Page 36 Exit the system setup program. The computer restarts. At the Welcome window, click OK. Double-click Refresh Windows OS. Click OK. Click OK again. Remove the operating system CD from the CD or DVD drive and click OK to restart your computer. The Getting ready to run Windows for the first time screen appears.

    Reinstall the appropriate drivers (see page 34). Reenable your virus protection software. Enter the system setup program as directed by a Dell technical support representative. In the system setup program Boot menu, change the boot sequence back to the original boot sequence, as directed by a Dell technical support representative.

ScanDisk automatically starts and checks your hard drive. Click Next in the Welcome to Windows Me window. Select the directory in which Windows resides.
