MAINTENANCE
To enjoy a perfect performance and high-quality sound,
clean the head periodically (once every 10 hours).
A head cleaning cassette is necessary for cleaning the
recording/playback heads.
Please use a commercially available "Wet-type" clean-
ing cassette. (For details, refer to the instructions sup-
plied with the cleaning cassette.)
Caution:
@
Some head cleaning tapes are not designed for use
on autoreverse decks. Be careful since there is a dan-
ger that you will not be able to remove the cleaning
cassette. Ask your PIONEER authorized service cen-
ter or dealer for details.
@® Donot use a head cleaning tape which does not con-.
form to the specified standards.
Do not use the dry-type cleaning cassette tapes.
After cleaning the head, do not load a cassette tape
until the cleaning liquid has dried (about 2 or 3 min-
utes).
Demagnetizing the Head
The recording/playback head becomes magnetized
when you use the tape deck for prolonged periods of
time. This results in noise being generated and the treble
dropping off during recording and playback. The record-
ing/playback head should therefore be demagnetized
regularly with a commonly sold head demagnetizer.
When demagnetizing the head, switch to the deck
receiver's power ON.
To avoid adversely affecting the amplifier and speak-
ers, be sure to set the volume level to minimum. Also
disconnect the headphone plug from the Headphones
jack.
For further details, refer to the operating instructions
accompanying your head demagnetizer.
Maintenance of External Surfaces
@
Use a polishing cloth or dry cloth to wipe off dust
and dirt.
@ When the surfaces are very dirty, wipe with a soft
cloth dipped in some neutral cleanser diluted five or
six times with water, and wrung out well, and then
wipe again with a dry cloth. Do not use furniture wax
or cleaners.
@
Never use thinners, benzine, insecticide sprays and
other chemicals on or near this unit, since these will
corrode the surfaces.
