What is a LocationFreeTV? The LocationFreeTV is an LCD television system that embodies the LocationFree ability to enjoy TV, videos, DVDs, Internet browsing, mail, and digital photos wherever you happen to be. Whether you use it at home through a wireless or wired LAN connection, or away from home with the NetAV function, the LocationFreeTV allows you to enjoy video images and other media from a variety of locations.

The procedure for connecting to a TV antenna differs depending on the type of antenna jack in your wall. Some antenna jacks require a separate converter or splitter (not supplied). For more information, contact your Sony dealer. Keep the antenna cable as far as possible from other power cords and cables.
Connecting Other Devices External devices featuring an A/V output terminal - such as a VCR, AV amplifier, DVR, DVD player/ recorder, or digital cable - can be connected to the base station. You can also connect a digital video camera or similar device directly to the AV IN jack on the monitor to watch video (LF-X1 only). Refer also to the operating instructions that came with the connected equipment.

Using a VCR and TV Connect the VCR to the VIDEO INPUT 2 terminal on the base station, and then connect the VIDEO OUTPUT terminal on the base station to the A/V input terminal on the TV, as shown below. The VIDEO OUT terminal outputs the audio/video signal coming from the device connected to the IN2 terminal.

Inserting the Battery ◆For the LF-X1 Place the monitor on a soft cloth with the LCD screen down. From the top of the compartment (1), slide the battery in as far as it will go (2). Keep the monitor stand closed when inserting the battery.

Slide the LOCK/UNLOCK latch on the back of the monitor to the UNLOCK position. From the bottom of the compartment, slide the battery into the monitor until it clicks into place. Notes • When storing the battery long-term, use up any remaining charge, then remove the battery and store it in a cool place. In addition, fully charge the battery and use up the entire charge at least once a year, before returning the battery to storage.

Carrying and Positioning the Monitor Note The stand will come off if force is applied. If the stand comes off, reinstall it in the proper position. Be careful not to swallow the stand. Adjusting the Viewing Angle ◆For the LF-X1 The monitor is best viewed within 60 degrees above or below and 70 degrees to the left or right of the center of the screen, as shown.
BASIC: Basic Setting Setting Up TV Channels You must first use “Auto Program” to automatically preset channels before you can watch TV. Be sure to automatically preset channels at a location where radio wave conditions are stable. Auto Program (for the External TV Tuner) To connect a device such as a set-top box (STB) using an antenna cable, proceed as follows. Before making the following settings, connect the set-top box to the base station. Also set up and connect the IR Blaster.

ADVANCE: Watching A/V via Home-Wired LAN You can enjoy TV and video with the LocationFreeTV “Home mode” via a wired LAN, as well as via a wireless connection. To use the wired LAN, you need to connect the monitor to the Ethernet port on a wall or on a router with a LAN cable (not supplied).
Setting Up the Monitor The IP address is set beforehand to be assigned automatically. To set an IP address manually, follow the steps below. Open the [Settings] window and select [Monitor]. The [Monitor] window appears. Select [Settings] to the right of [Home- Wired LAN].
ADVANCE: Making Use of NetAV This section describes how to set up the NetAV server on the base station and the NetAV client on the monitor. Selecting a Secondary Audio Program (SAP) The secondary audio program (SAP) mode is available for television broadcasts that include multiple audio tracks. When a TV program with multiple audio tracks is tuned in, repeatedly select [SAP] at the bottom left of the screen to switch between audio tracks. Each time the [SAP] button is pressed, [STEREO] or [SAP] appears in the bar on the screen.
Using the Sub- Screen (LF-X1 only) While viewing web pages or mail, you can watch TV or video on the sub-screen. Select [PIP] at the bottom right of the screen. The most recent TV or video channel is displayed on the sub-screen at the bottom right of the screen.
Capturing Images With the CAPTURE button on top of the monitor, you can capture a still image of the currently displayed screen.You can then save captured images automatically in the album to enjoy later at your convenience. * Captured images cannot be used for purposes other than personal enjoyment without the permission of their copyright holders.
Using the Wide Screen Mode (LF-X5 only) Selecting the Wide button switches the monitor to the Wide Screen mode. Wide Screen mode lets you watch normal broadcasts (4:3 aspect ratio) or other picture sizes, such as letterbox movies, in several Wide Screen modes (16:9 aspect ratio).

Capturing a Web Page (Album) You can capture a web page and save the image in the album. For web pages containing pictures, you can capture not only the entire screen but select specific images for capture. Note Some web pages contain images that cannot be captured.
With the web page you want to search open, select [Search]. The search window appears at the bottom of the screen. Enter a character string into the entry field, then select [Close] on the on-screen keyboard. With the LF-X5, select [Exit] after entering a character string.

3 Character Code Most web pages include information about language encoding. If not, text may not display correctly. Use this setting to select the language for a web page. The default setting is [English/Western]. If you changed the character code, the new character code takes effect after you restart the monitor.

When you open the Inbox, the off and the icon disappears. (The indicator is only available for the LF-X1.) When you are viewing other screens on the LocationFreeTV, this indicator is enabled and lights up when new mail is automatically detected.
Replying to Mail Open the Inbox window and select the mail you want to reply to. Select this. The content of the mail is displayed. Select [Reply]. The original message is quoted in the body of a new mail. Replying to multiple recipients When the original mail has been sent to multiple recipients, a message appears asking who you want to reply to.
Enter the mail address of the recipient, and select [Send]. [Send] Using Mail: Useful Functions Using the Address Book Adding addresses to the address book Open the Inbox or Outbox, then select a sent or received mail that includes the address that you want to add to the address book.

Setting an E-mail Protection Password You can set an e-mail protection password to prevent other people from reading your mail on the LocationFreeTV.

Viewing Images in the Album Displaying the Album The Album displays in a list the pictures stored on a “Memory Stick” (LF-X1) or a CompactFlash card (LF-X5). Note The sub-screen is not available when the Album window is open. (LF-X1 only) Open the [Index] window, and select [Album].

Viewing a Slide Show Open the [Picture List] window, clear the check boxes for all pictures, and select [Slide Show]. [Slide Show] All the pictures in the album are enlarged and displayed in order. To quit the slide show, touch an enlarged image.
Drawing on the Screen You can draw pictures and text on saved images or a blank white screen and save your creations in the album. Open the [Picture List] window, select the check box of a single picture, and then select [Draw].
Using the Drawing Palette Pen panel The display examples shown below are for the LF-X1. For the LF-X5, the actual screens will differ. To draw pictures or text 1 Select the type of pen. 2 For [Width], select the width of the pen tip.

Displaying Picture Information Open the [Picture List] window, select the check box for a single picture, and select [Info.]. Note If you have selected the check boxes for multiple pictures, you cannot select [Info.]. Be sure to select only one check box and leave the others clear.
Entering Characters When you select an entry field to compose mail or to configure various settings, the on-screen keyboard appears. Using the stylus, you can type text by touching the appropriate keys. This section describes how to enter characters, using the [Compose E-mail] window as an example.

Using an External Keyboard (LF-X1 only) You can connect an external keyboard (not supplied) to the USB port on the right side of the monitor. With an external keyboard connected, the on-screen keyboard does not appear. Note that some keyboards may not work with the LocationFreeTV.
Using a “Memory Stick” (LF-X1 Only) Inserting a “Memory Stick” Insert a “Memory Stick” in the slot on the right of the monitor until you hear it click. The “Memory Stick” indicator lights orange when data is transferred between the LocationFreeTV and the “Memory Stick”.
• The LocationFreeTV supports Memory Stick sizes up to 1 GB. Operation with Memory Stick PRO media having higher capacity is not guaranteed. Basic Settings Open the [Settings] window and select [Basic]. The [Basic] window appears. By selecting one of the options in the [Basic] window, you can perform the following settings. A Clock Sets the current date, time, and time zone. If the clock is not set correctly, some web pages may not display properly.
Setting Up TV Channels Manually Manually edit TV channels when: • You want to delete a channel from those preset during automatic channel setup. • You want to restore a channel deleted previously. Deleting Unwanted Channels You can delete unwanted TV channels from the preset TV channel list.

Select [Channel Skip/Add]. The [Channel Skip/Add] window appears. In the [Channel Skip/Add] window, a list of the channels detected during automatic channel setup appears. Changing the Wireless Channel Manually When the wireless communication signal becomes unstable during wireless operation, the LocationFreeTV automatically shifts to the clearest wireless channel. In the following situations, however, you should change the wireless channel manually: • TV pictures are frequently interrupted. •...
Make sure you can watch TV or video through the wireless channel you have selected and select [Back]. The [Base station] window is restored. Select [Settings], then select [Exit]. The LocationFreeTV uses the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels. If you select [Automatic: 2.4 GHz only] or [Automatic: 5 GHz only], the base station automatically selects the optimum wireless signal for the specified band.
• The base station can still function as the wireless access point for other computers, even if you are using the monitor in wired LAN mode (i.e., no wireless connection to the base station). Setting Up a Wireless LAN This section describes the basic steps for setting up the base station as a wireless access point for other computers.
