    About This Manual • The instructions in this manual describe the controls on the remote. You can also use the controls on the system if they have the same or similar names as those on the remote. • The Control Menu items may be different depending on the area.

    • DAB programs are broadcast in Band-III (174 to 240 MHz) and/or L-Band (1452 to 1491 MHz), with each band divided into channels. Each of these channels has its own channel label. For details on the channel labels and frequencies that this tuner supports, see the Frequency Table on page 79.

    Getting Started – BASIC – See Unpacking in Specifications, page 78. Inserting batteries into the remote You can control the system using the supplied remote. Insert two R6 (size AA) batteries by matching the 3 and # ends on the batteries to the markings inside the compartment. When using the remote, point it at the remote sensor on the system.

    Step 1: Connecting the System and TV This hookup is the basic connection of the system to the speakers and TV. For other TV connections, see page 21. For other component connection, see page 24. To accept progressive signals, see page 22. Refer to the connection diagram below, and read the additional information from 1 to 4 on the following pages.

    1 Connecting the Speakers Required cords The connector and color tube of the speaker cords are the same color as the label of the jacks to be connected. Note • Do not catch the speaker cord insulation in the SPEAKER jack. To avoid short-circuiting the speakers Short-circuiting of the speakers may damage the system.

    Step 2: Positioning the System Positioning the speakers For the best possible surround sound, all the speakers other than the subwoofer should be the same distance from the listening position (A). However, this system allows you to place the center speaker up to 1.6 meters (5 ft) closer (B) and the surround speakers up to 5.0 meters (16 ft) closer (C) to the listening position.

    Step 3: Performing the Quick Setup Follow the steps below to make the minimum number of basic adjustments for using the system. C/X/x/c ENTER Turn on the TV. Press [/1. Note • Disconnect the headphones when you perform the Quick Setup. You cannot operate steps after 12 with the headphones connected.

    Getting Started – ADVANCED – Turning off the Demonstration X/x/c ENTER After connecting the AC power cord (mains lead), the demonstration appears in the front panel display. When you press "/1 on the remote, the demonstration turns off. Note • When you press "/1 on the system, the demonstration does not turn off.

    Settings for the Speakers [SPEAKER SETUP] To obtain the best possible surround sound, set for the size of the speakers you have connected and their distance from your listening position. Then use the test tone to adjust the level and the balance of the speakers to the same level.

    After checking the above items and fixing any problems, turn on the system. If the cause of the problem cannot be found even after checking all the above items, consult your nearest Sony dealer. Picture There is no picture. • The SCART (EURO AV) cord is not connected securely.
