Introduction This HP Access Control Card Reader Install Guide provides instructions on how to install the HP Access Control (HPAC) Secure Printing card readers on HP devices. It includes step-by-step guides for installing both external and internal card readers. External card readers include Universal Serial Bus (USB) and Compact Flash readers. Internal card readers include Hardware Integration Pocket (HIP) readers.

This chapter provides information on the external USB card reader hardware components and gives step-by-step instructions for installing the card reader on HP devices. External USB card readers can be installed on either an external or internal USB port. Instructions for both options are provided in this chapter.
USB card reader hardware The HPAC Secure Printing USB external card reader hardware contains the following parts: ● HPAC proximity card/badge reader that connects to the host USB port of the device NOTE: There is one reader per type of proximity card. The cards compatible with the reader are indicated on the back of the card reader.
Connect the card reader to the USB port. Turn on the power to the device. HP LaserJet M3035 MFP To install the USB card reader to an external USB port on the HP LaserJet M3035 MFP, complete the following steps: Turn off the power to the device.
These devices do not have an internal USB port, but do feature an internal Compact Flash slot. To install the USB card reader to an external USB port on the HP Color LaserJet 4730 MFP or HP Color LaserJet CM4730 MFP, complete the following steps: Turn off the power to the device.

Chapter 1 External USB card readers ENWW...
This chapter provides information on the external Compact Flash card reader hardware components and gives step-by-step instructions for installing the card reader on HP devices. Compact Flash card readers are installed on an internal Compact Flash slot in the HP device. Detailed instructions are provided in this chapter.
Compact Flash card reader hardware The HPAC Secure Printing Compact Flash card reader hardware contains the following parts: ● HPAC proximity card/badge reader that connects to the Compact Flash slot of the device NOTE: There is one reader per type of proximity card. The cards compatible with the reader are indicated on the back of the card reader.
Install Compact Flash card reader Some HP devices feature a Compact Flash slot that accepts Compact Flash devices, such as the HPAC Compact Flash card reader. To install the Compact Flash card reader on an internal Compact Flash slot, use the supplied EIO plate with the card reader's cable routed through the plate.

To verify that an HPAC card reader is installed, check the configuration page of the device using the following steps: Print a configuration page from the HP device. See the device user manuals for instructions specific to your device. Verify that the HPAC card reader is listed under USB Accessories as AC HPROX.
Embedded Web Server (EWS) To verify that an HPAC card reader is installed using EWS, complete the following steps: Navigate to the EWS web page of the device: http://{DeviceIP_Address}. Click the Configuration Page tab. Make sure IOF displays as “active” in Installed Personalities and Options. Verify that the HPAC card reader is listed under USB Accessories in Installed Personalities and Options.
