PARTS AND FEATURES

BEFORE FIRST USE

Read these instructions thoroughly and save for future reference.
Carefully unpack the appliance from its packaging and check that all parts are present. Remove any promotional labels or stickers and safely dispose of plastic bags or small pieces that could present a suffocation or choking hazard.
Wipe the can opener base and cutting mechanism with a clean, damp cloth to remove any dirt or dust. Do not immerse any part of the can opener, power cord, or electrical plug in any liquid. Do not use abrasive cleansers or scouring pads.

USING YOUR APPLIANCE

Place the can opener on a flat, dry surface. Check that the control switch on top is in the OFF position and then plug the power cord into the electrical outlet.
Position the top of the can under the guide bar with the rim on the lid rest, making sure the can is aligned with the cutting mechanism.
Press down on the OPEN CAN icon on the control switch to start the can opening operation. The drive wheel will start rotating counterclockwise and move inwards to grip the can. Once the drive wheel stops moving inwards (2-3 seconds) you no longer need to hold the can.
NOTE - You can pause operation at any time without releasing the can at any time by pressing lightly on the CAN RELEASE icon. Press the OPEN CAN icon again to restart.
When the can has completed one full rotation, hold it firmly with one hand and press and hold the CAN RELEASE icon with the other hand. The drive wheel will rotate clockwise and move outwards to release the can. Release the control switch to return it to the OFF position.
Carefully lift the lid to remove it from the can.
NOTE - The can opener WILL NOT stop automatically when the can is open. Do not leave the can opener unattended while operating.

CAN OPENING TIPS

This can opener will easily open all standard-size cans, including non-circular cans, and cans with pop-top lids.
It is not suitable for opening rimless cans, cans with angled corners, cans with a diameter less than 2.1 in (5.5 cm) or height greater than 7 in (17.7 cm), or cans weighing over 50 oz (1420g).
If there is a bump, dent, or heavy seam in the rim of the can, start the cutting action just beyond the area.
When opening a can weighing 30-50 oz. (850-1420g), it is necessary to hold down the can opener to prevent it from overturning.
Do not hold the can while the can is being opened.
Do hold the can firmly when releasing to avoid dropping it.
Listen to the can opener motor; when the sound shifts to a higher pitch, the can is open.
Stop the can opener after one rotation; continuing after one rotation can increase the risk of metal slivers.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Unplug the can opener from its power source.
Wipe the can opener base and cutting mechanism with a clean, damp cloth to remove any dirt or dust. Do not immerse any part of the can opener, power cord, or electrical plug in any liquid. Do not use abrasive cleansers or scouring pads.
Dry the can opener base and cutting mechanism thoroughly before storing or plugging back in.

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using your Kenmore Smooth-Edge Electric Can Opener, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

Before using the appliance for the first time, remove any packaging material, promotional labels, and stickers. Safely dispose of plastic bags or small pieces that could present a suffocation or choking hazard to young children.
Before using, check that the voltage of the wall outlet corresponds to the one shown on the rating plate. Do not attempt to use the appliance with a voltage converter.
POLARIZED PLUG: This appliance is equipped with a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. DO NOT attempt to alter the plug in any way to make it fit.
Do not attempt to operate the appliance if there is damage to the cord or plug, after it has malfunctioned or been dropped or damaged in any way, or if it is not operating properly. Contact Koolatron Customer Assistance for information on repair and warranty options.
Always unplug the appliance from the power source when not in use, before assembling or disassembling, and before cleaning. To unplug, grasp plug and pull it from the electrical outlet; never unplug the appliance by pulling on the power cord.
To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse the can opener, power cord, or electrical plug in any liquid. If the appliance falls into or accidentally becomes immersed in water, immediately unplug it from the wall outlet. DO NOT REACH INTO THE WATER.
Do not let the power cord hang over the edge of the table or counter or contact hot surfaces, such as the stovetop or cooking pot.
This appliance is recommended for indoor household use only and not for commercial or industrial use. Do not use outdoors. Using this appliance for anything other than its intended use will void your warranty.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons, including children, with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, without supervision and instruction by a person responsible for their safety.
Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
Do not leave the appliance unattended while in use.
Avoid contact with moving parts.
To protect against personal injury, use extreme caution when cleaning the cutting blade.
Do not attempt to use the can opener if the blade is bent or damaged in any way.
Do not open pressurized (aerosol-type) cans.
Do not open cans of flammable liquids such as lighter fluid.
Do not use the can opener to open rimless cans, cans with angled corners or cans with a diameter less than 2.1 in (5.5 cm) or height greater than 7 in (17.7 cm).
Do not use the can opener to open cans weighing more than 50 oz (1420 g). When opening a can weighing 30-50 oz (850-1420g), it is necessary to hold down the can opener to prevent it from overturning.
Do not attempt to operate the appliance by any method other than those described in this manual. Aftermarket attachments or accessories not recommended by Kenmore will void your warranty and may cause fire, electrical shock, or injury.
