15. Power Lines An outside antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them might be fatal.
To Obtain a Clear Picture As a guideline, check every 1,000 hours. The main unit is a high-tech, precision device. If the optical pick-up lens and disc drive parts are dirty or worn, the picture quality will be poor. Regular inspection and maintenance are recommended after every 1,000 hours of use. SETTING LANGUAGE You can select a language if the DVD disc has more than one language for menus, subtitles or the soundtrack recorded onto it. The settings will be retained in the memory until they are changed, even if the power is turned off or the disc is replaced.
SETTING THE ASPECT RATIO OF TV SCREEN You can set the screen size (Vertical/ Horizontal Ratios) of this unit’s LCD screen and the size of the TV screen connected to the unit. If you make this setting, the picture of your DVD’s will be displayed at that size. The settings will be retained in the memory until they are changed, even if the power is turned off or the disc is replaced.

PARENTAL CONTROL SETTING Some discs are specified not suitable for children. Such discs can be limited not to play back with the unit. If you set restrictions to who can watch this unit, you can prevent your children from watching violent scenes and adult pictures. However the viewer restrictions set here are only valid with discs with the parental control function.

SETTING THE CHILD LOCK Note: Even if “ON” is selected for the CHILD LOCK, if [DISC OPEN] is pressed for 5 seconds or more, the disc tray will open. (Even if you pressed [DISC OPEN] next, the tray would not open unless you press it for 5 seconds or longer.
ANTENNA CONNECTIONS If you are using an indoor or outdoor antenna, follow the instructions below that correspond to your antenna system. If you are using a cable TV service (CATV), see page E40 for “CATV CONNECTIONS”. CATV CONNECTIONS This unit has an extended tuning range and can tune most cable channels without using a Cable TV Converter box. Some cable companies offer “premium pay channels” in which the signal is scrambled. Descrambling these signals for normal viewing requires the use of a descrambler device which is generally provided by the cable company.
SETTING THE LANGUAGE You can choose from three different languages (English, French and Spanish) for the on-screen displays. Adjustment menus and messages will appear in the language of your choice. On-screen language selection (step 4) will automatically appear on the screen when you press [MENU] initially.
TO MEMORIZE CHANNELS This unit is equipped with a channel memory feature which allows channels to skip up or down to the next channel set into memory, skipping over unwanted channels. Before selecting channels, they must be pro- grammed into the unit’s memory. In addition to normal VHF and UHF channels, this unit can receive up to 113 Cable TV channels.

To Operate the Buttons on the Unit You can operate the buttons ([ /ON], [CHANNEL] +/–, [VOLUME] +/–, [FUNCTION]) on the unit. Status Display of TV DISPLAY Press [DISPLAY]. Reception status of the channel and sound will be displayed on the TV screen. The sound reception status will disappear after about 4 seconds.
PICTURE CONTROL ADJUSTMENT You can adjust the picture quality to suit the brightness of the room and the programs you watch. FUNCTION Note: The screen display that comes up when operating disappears in several seconds to 1 minute in order to protect the LCD display. Preparation: Press [FUNCTION] to either the TV mode or External Input mode.
